Ottawa, Canada—Tuesday, October 2, 2001 // BTI Photonic Systems, an innovator of advanced fiber amplifiers and Bragg gratings, today announced that it successfully completed its first shipments of product to North American customers during the third quarter.
BTI's president and CEO, Lance Laking, indicated that, "Outside of our funding tranches, this is the most important milestone achieved to date at BTI and it definitely takes us to the next level as a company. We designed products according to our customer's requirements, manufactured them in our Ottawa facility, and shipped them to customers. It demonstrates BTI Photonic's approach to working with and meeting our customer's expectations. It's also great to see our first products quite literally going out the door."
BTI currently has orders from European and North American customers, for which it designs and manufactures products in-house. BTI's core strengths include advanced fiber amplifiers along with complementary in-house optical components capabilities such as Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs). These current customer engagements demonstrate how BTI is able to combine its amplifier strengths with value added integration of optical components to offer EDFA solutions that meet the most demanding customer requirements.
As Laking points out, "This customer approach is very much a part of our vision. We not only offer enhanced system capabilities and network performance, but we help our customers reduce complexity and drive down overall system costs. They obviously benefit, but so too do our investors and our employees."
BTI is on a path to becoming a leading supplier of optical components for next generation all-optical communications networks. BTI's advanced fiber amplifiers and related products fundamentally improve the way optical networks can be designed and deployed. BTI is quickly moving to become a specialist in innovative new metro, long haul, and ultra-long haul fiber amplifier solutions.
Recent projections have the optical amplifier market alone growing from approximately $2.5 billion in 2001 to almost $5 billion in 2004. The total market for DWDM optical components is expected to reach $24 billion by 2004.
BTI is a photonics company that designs and manufactures Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers and DWDM optical components. BTI's innovative EDFAs incorporate proprietary technology and offer unique advantages to optical network manufacturers, as well as carriers and service providers worldwide. BTI's advanced fiber amplifiers offer extremely low noise, small size and low power consumption to address a broad range of optical network requirements from low power terminal preamplifiers and low cost metro EDFAs, up to high power and low noise long haul and ultra-long haul transport applications. BTI has approximately 40 employees and is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
