Ottawa, Canada—Monday, December 3, 2001 // BTI Photonics today unveiled its new Optical Transport Sub-system focus. By building on its original, world-class optical amplification and signal conditioning component products, and by adding additional integration and systems expertise, BTI is establishing a new market category, with the clear intent of positioning itself as the "Optical Transport Sub-system" market leader.
"Like many emerging companies in the optical networking space, we've spent considerable time on positioning, strategy, and where our business should be - relative to current market realities," says BTI's president and CEO, Lance Laking. "By talking - and listening - to our target customers, we have identified a unique, high value opportunity. We're combining our existing component strengths with vertical integration and systems level expertise to clearly focus our business and provide a solution to customers that does not currently exist. We're thrilled by the prospects and are now focusing all our energy on execution."
BTI will require some restructuring over the next few weeks, including a realignment of its workforce and resources. Laking also indicates that, "We will be making further announcements over the next few weeks demonstrating BTI's determination to rapidly execute on our new strategic direction."
BTI is a photonics sub-system company with unique, optical amplification and signal conditioning capabilities, valuable IP, and strong systems level vertical integration expertise. BTI is responding to current market requirements and its customers' evolving needs by delivering the world's first Optical Transport Sub-system solution.
