Ottawa, Canada—Thursday, April 11, 2002 // BTI, a designer and builder of optical amplification, signal conditioning and performance monitoring subsystems, and LIGHTCONNECT, a designer and manufacturer of innovative MEMS (micro electro-mechanical systems), components and modules for next generation, dynamically configurable optical networks, today announced they will be working together to further their respective interests in dynamic gain equalization. The first step in this partnership will see LIGHTCONNECT's fast Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA) included as part of BTI's recently introduced managed Optical Link Subsystem (OLS), specifically in optional line amplifier circuit packs.
BTI president and CEO, Lance Laking said, "It is very gratifying to be collaborating with technology innovators like LIGHTCONNECT in order to enhance the signal conditioning capabilities of our Optical Link Subsystem. In working together, we each achieve important performance and integration goals. This arrangement helps fulfill BTI's commitment to rapid deployment of best-of-breed technology in our subsystems."
LIGHTCONNECT's president and CEO, Peter Clark, indicated that working with BTI, "was an opportunity to offer a new level of integration and functionality to those customers that need a network ready solution. We instantly recognized the attributes of BTI's OLS and that it offers an attractive and cost effective delivery platform for our family of gain equalization products."
BTI will be showcasing the OLS at SUPERCOMM in Atlanta, Georgia, June 3-6, 2002 at booth #23962, Hall B-4. Further product specifics are available on the BTI Web site at http://www.btiphotonics.com/
LIGHTCONNECT designs and manufactures innovative MEMS (micro
electro-mechanical systems), components and modules for next
generation, dynamically configurable optical networks. The Company's
products meet the growing need for configurability in optical networks
by enabling both rapid dynamic bandwidth and circuit provisioning.
LIGHTCONNECT builds new optical components based on a unique technology
known as diffractive MEMS.
BTI has designed and builds the optical networking industry's first independent, managed Optical Link System. OLS addresses link requirements faced by network equipment manufacturers and their service provider customers alike as they assemble and deliver more flexible and dynamic Metro, Regional, and Long Haul networks. BTI's solution combines standard network management interfaces with optical performance monitoring and a variety of optional amplifier and signal conditioning circuit packs in the industry's densest form factor. The OLS allows system vendors to focus on their core competency, reduces their costs and enhances their system capabilities. Service providers benefit from lower CAPEX and OPEX costs plus faster, more flexible optical link provisioning. Currently with 32 employees, BTI is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
