Chicago, USA—Monday, June 6, 2005 // Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, and BTI Photonics Systems Inc., a leading supplier of metro edge connectivity for the build-out of new broadband services, announced today an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) alliance to begin the Telcordia® OSMINE™ process and fully integrate BTI’s Netstender™ platform into the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® portfolio, where it will become the FLASHWAVE 7120 optical extension system. The platform will be at SUPERCOMM® 2005 (Fujitsu Booth No. 41015) from June 7 through June 9, 2005 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.
The FLASHWAVE 7120 optical extension system offers a
cost-effective way to transport today’s advanced services over spans
that exceed the available fiber capacity or typical reach of metro
optics. The platform allows carriers to combine multiplexing,
amplification, signal conditioning, optical add/drop, and performance
monitoring in a managed solution that can be easily deployed in metro
and regional networks. Combining optical layer functions into a
single, flexible, and space-efficient platform greatly reduces the
deployment cost and operational complexity of adding each function
incrementally.
The FLASHWAVE 7120 system is available in three shelf sizes to
accommodate a wide variety of installation and upgrade options. The
FLASHWAVE 7120 Passive Shelf offers an ultra compact 1U (1.75") chassis
with support for two passive circuit packs in low-density
applications. The FLASHWAVE 7120 Small Shelf allows any combination of
two active or passive circuit packs to be installed in a 1U chassis.
The FLASHWAVE 7120 Large Shelf features increased flexibility with
support for up to five hot-swappable service interface packs within its
modular 2U (3.5") chassis. The FLASHWAVE 7120 optical extension system
supports direct connection narrowband optics, including optics from
other FLASHWAVE products, which drives both cost and complexity from a
carrier’s network.
“Fujitsu optical transport products are widely considered the
standard for quality; one of the main reasons why we continue to lead
both the next-generation SONET and Re-configurable Optical Add/Drop
Multiplexer (ROADM) markets,” said Bill Erickson, senior vice president
of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. “After a
detailed product testing and certification process, we have determined
that BTI’s Netstender system meets our stringent quality standards. We
have initiated the OSMINE process with Telcordia and have adopted an
OEM arrangement with BTI to fully integrate the product into our
FLASHWAVE product portfolio.”
“BTI is providing Fujitsu with a photonic layer solution that
will allow their customers to expand their broadband services footprint
at the network edge”, said Lance Laking, president and CEO of BTI
Photonic Systems. “This OEM arrangement brings together Fujitsu’s
market leading position with BTI’s technology leadership to address
service provider’s broadband services buildouts.”
The FLASHWAVE 7120 architecture scales to allow 23 service slots
from multiple shelves to be managed as a single network element with a
single processor. Integration with the NETSMART® 500 craft interface
and NETSMART 1500 Element Management System (EMS) allows the
FLASHWAVE 7120 platform and other Fujitsu optical transport products to
be seamlessly managed by a common support infrastructure. The
FLASHWAVE 7120 optical extension system includes comprehensive
Transaction Language 1 (TL1) and Simple Network Management Protocol
(SNMP) support, which allows integration with a wide variety of
operating procedures and third-party management systems.
